Don't you hate it when you walk into a restaurant and the first thing you notice is a huge whiff of smoke in your face? This is one of the most annoying and unappetizing things ever. Wouldn't it be nice if people knew how stupid it really is to smoke, and nobody did? Some people think that smoking is just fine for them and they don't worry about it at all. Well in my opinion, smoking is bad for both the smoker and their bank account.
First of all, smoking wastes a tremendous amount of money. One box of cigarettes costs about $4.25. That means that if someone smoked a pack a day for one year, they just flushed $1,551.25 down the toilet. If that same person smoked a pack a day for ten years, they just wasted $15,512.50! And just imagine, some people smoke for most of their lives. That same money could have gone to a charity, or even bought them an apartment!
Secondly, smoking kills. All of that smoke that a person inhales doesn't just come out of their ears and do no harm. There becomes a build up of tar in their lungs. This fills up air sacs and causes emphysema, a deadly disease. According to Dr. Rob Gillio, a lung doctor, smoking can also cause throat, tongue, and lung cancer. Also according to Dr. Gillio, every cigarette that a person smokes takes approximately eight minutes off their life. These are only a few of the things that smoking can cause.
Finally, when someone smokes, they're not just hurting themselves; they're hurting other people. Second-hand smoke can be just as deadly as first-hand smoke. It is especially bad for young children whose lungs aren't fully developed yet. It can do exactly the same damage to them as it would to the smoker.
In conclusion, smoking is just downright senseless and disgusting. It doesn't do any good to anyone or anything. If you want to kill yourself and other people, go right ahead and try it. But in the end, smokers will find out that smoking will leave them with an empty bank account, and a damaged body.
